Our events

Our goal is to provide open, inclusive and accessible opportunities for young professionals to connect with one another locally. This year we aim to hold four main events during 2019 along with an informal gathering on at least a monthly basis.

About Alex

Alexander Druce

Alex is a Corporate Banking Manager at Handelsbanken, based on Old Elvet in the centre of Durham. He has had a varied banking career both in terms of different financial institutions and also geographic locations having commenced his career in Manchester and settled in Durham via a number of years in Leeds. In terms of interests outside of the office, Alex greatly enjoys spending time with his family and friends as well as being a keen cyclist.

Charlotte Excell


Charlotte is a solicitor at Swinburne Maddison. Previously, she worked as a Paralegal and Trainee Solicitor in the commercial property and corporate departments of another regional firm. Outside of work, Charlotte loves to travel and in 2012 spent a year studying in China and travelling South-East Asia.

Daniel heads up Concision, a specialist business writing and message company and recently founded The Poetry Company. He read law at Balliol College, Oxford, and subsequently theology. He enjoys public speaking, and recently gave a TEDx talk on ‘How concision might save your life.’ In his spare time he enjoys good coffee, cycling and kayaking.

David Low

David is a partner at Swinburne Maddison with particular expertise in property litigation. He has had a varied career, including time as cruise staff on board the Queen Elizabeth II. Away from the office, David enjoys spending time with his young family, devotes a great deal of his free time as Chairman of the Durham City Amateur Swimming & Water Polo Club and is also an avid follower of football.

Jake Miller

Jake's role within Handelsbanken is an Account Manager Support. He is based out of Durham branch which is situated on Old Elvet in the centre of Durham. He arrived at Handelsbanken straight from University in 2015. Jake completed an internship at Handelsbanken Sunderland before securing a full time role in the bank. Jake then moved to Durham branch in 2018.

Nicola Coleman

Nicola is a Senior Manager at Clive Owen LLP, based in their Durham office. She specialises in audit and accounts, working with clients across a wide range of sectors. She graduated from Durham University before qualifying as a Chartered Accountant. Nicola is a keen football fan and enjoys days out with friends and family.
